How Wizards Advance works
These rules come from the game's own rule code. The game is the authority; this page follows it. See also how to play and the full spell reference.
The basics
- Single-player action RPG. You play one lone wizard.
- Resources: Health, Energy, Stamina.
- Staff bolt: costs 3 Energy, ricochets off stone. Per character level it gains +10 damage, +1 m/s speed and +1 m range. Ricochet count: 1 at levels 1-5, 2 at 6-10, 3 at 11-15, 4 at 16 and above.
Spells
- A wizard earns 1 spell point per character level after the first: points = characterLevel - 1.
- Learning a spell costs 1 point (Blink is free and always known). A spell can only be learned at or above its minCharacterLevel, and only while fewer than maxKnownSpells are known. Found spells (foundBy) aren't learned with points.
- You can know up to 10 spells. Only 5 spells can be ready on the quick-slot bar at once, Blink among them. The rest wait in the Spell Library (P) and the Spellbook (*); drag a known spell from either onto the bar - onto a ready spell to swap them. Items (potions, the holy symbol) don't count.
- Some spells can't be learned with points - they're found: Invisibility and Jump, each taught by an item the Dwarf Merchant gives for a quest. A found spell costs no point but takes a known-spell place, and grows (and takes stacked points, up to level 20) like any other.
- spellLevel = 1 + (characterLevel - characterLevelWhenLearned) + pointsStacked. A spell starts at level 1 when learned, whatever the wizard's level, and gains 1 level with every character level after that. Blink (and spells a character started with) count as learned at level 1.
- Each further point on a known spell raises it 1 spell level, until spell level 20: a spell at 20 is mastered - MAX LEVEL - and takes no more points. It still grows 1 level with every character level after that.
- Damage multiplier by spell level: 0.8 at level 1, rising in a straight line to 10 at level 20, then x1.15 per level after that. Applies to the wizard's damaging spells.
- Cooldown multiplier by spell level: 1.0 at level 1, 0.6 at level 20, then x0.95 per level (never below 0.15). Haste shortens cooldowns further while it lasts.
- Each summon spell raises one family (never mixed). Casting again replaces only that spell's band. At most 24 summoned creatures at once across all bands; summons fight at their own natural level.
